Imagine relaxing on a sun-drenched terrace savouring the first drink of the day.   Imagine a swimming pool, inviting, encouraging, waiting to be disturbed.  Imagine sitting in the shade of an olive tree with not a man-made sound to be heard.  Imagine a sky so blue you’ll forget all about grey.  Imagine the smells and sounds of a barbecue sizzling away.   Difficult?    Not at all, when you’re at Finca Pichon ....

Finca Pichon was once the harvest home of a local family who used it when gathering their olives, walnuts, and grapes.  Today it is a luxurious detached Andalusian-style villa set in its own grounds of four acres.

Although offering all modern conveniences, including air-conditioning throughout, it retains its original rustic charms and ambience.

Sensitively restored in the local manner, the finca has three double bedrooms, two bathrooms (one en-suite), a very large lounge with open fire, and a kitchen complete with cooker, fridge, freezer, etc.

Outside, the finca nestles on the side of a beautiful and peaceful tree-lined valley and is surrounded by its own groves of olive and walnut trees interspersed with muscatel grape vines.  A paved terrace with panoramic views of the Sierra mountains leads to the private swimming pool and garden area.  There is a large barbecue (which is certain to be the focal point during your stay), garden furniture and sun loungers.  The original drying beds, once used for ripening grapes to provide raisins, have been carefully retained to add interest and charm.

The Finca and gardens are fenced and there is ample off-road parking for several vehicles.

Bordering the Sierras de Tejeda y Almijara National Park and situated near the village of Canillas de Albaida with its excellent restaurants and shopping facilities, Finca Pichon enjoys a rural setting that is ideal for walkers and nature lovers seeking tranquillity away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

The finca is approximately 50km from Málaga airport, only 45 minutes to the resort town of Nerja, and a similar distance to the beaches and attractions of the coast.  The historic and larger city of Granada with its Alhambra Palace is within an easy drive to afford the opportunity of experiencing the Andalusian serenity and friendliness of this most Spanish of areas.

Accommodation description

Bedrooms: Bedroom 1 with double bed, seating area and en-suite shower room. Bedroom 2 with twin beds. Bedroom 3 with twin beds. All bedrooms have air-conditioning.

Bathrooms: Big family bathroom with bath, shower, WC, bidet. En-suite shower room to bedroom 1 with shower and WC.

Kitchen: Fully fitted kitchen including, hob, oven, microwave, fridge freezer.

Utility Room: Utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer.

Living Room: Large lounge with open fire and air-conditioning. Large TV, video, DVD and WiFi. Single sofa bed, plus several comfy sofas and chairs.

Cleaning/Towels/Linen/Service: All bed linen and towels are provided. The Finca is cleaned at the beginning and end of your stay and a welcome pack will be placed in the kitchen for your arrival.

Getting There

The nearest airport is at Málaga, approximately 50km and about an hour’s car journey away.  (A map, directions and other information are supplied on receipt of the rental balance.)  Please note there will be a welcome pack at the Finca on your arrival.

Local shop opening hours are typically Spanish; so, allowing for a multitude of holidays and festivals, expect them to be open from approximately 09:00 to 14:00 and 17:00 to 21:00 six days a week (closed on Sundays).


Within the local village of Canillas de Albaida there are some excellent restaurants: the Plaza restaurant in the main square by the church, Bar Cerezo, Ramon and Antonio’s bars on the road out of the village towards Cómpeta and many others.

There is an even larger selection in the nearby town of Cómpeta. In Cómpeta, the restaurants Pichon and Rustica are both good, as is the Hotel Balcon de Cómpeta.

This is an excellent area for walking and attractions include the Fabrica de Luz, Fabrica de Cómpeta, the remote village of Acebuchal, Casa La Mina, and various other walks and drives as described in “25 Walks around Cómpeta” (copy available at the finca).

Other available outdoor activities include four-wheel drive tours of the mountains, caving and guided horse trekking tours as well as all the attractions of the coast.

Changeover day is flexible depending on existing bookings and there is no minimum stay period. Prices are inclusive of all utility charges and can be paid in Euros or UK Sterling.   Should the finca be available for the period you have requested, we will provisionally reserve the finca on your behalf for seven days during which period you must send us your deposit of 20% of the total rental charge.  In the event we do not receive your deposit within the seven days, we reserve the right to release the finca to other parties.

We reserve the right to retain your deposit in the event of cancellation of a booking for whatever reason, excepting where the finca is re-rented at the same rate for the same period.

The balance of the rental is due eight weeks prior to date of occupancy.  Detailed maps and instructions will be forwarded on receipt of the balance.

The renter is liable for all replacements and repairs (other than normal cleaning and laundry of linens) that may be required to attain the same condition as when occupancy commenced.  The renter must take notice that smoking is not permitted within the finca.
